Hoops and hustle: A thrilling day on the court

The Kasi Invitational Games took centre stage at the Gugulethu sports complex on Sunday, February 23.

In the opening match, Pride Basketball Club got the better of Crossroads Basketball Club by 40-32.

An hour later, Gladiators and Gugulethu Hustlers played to a two-points difference in an entertaining match. The side from Mitchell’s Plain got the win with a scoreline of 37-35.

Cape Waves Basketball Club beat Umoja Basketball, from Delft, 60-51.

Khaltsha Stars female team played to a 26-16 victory against the Cape Town Sharks.

Closing off Game Week Four, Langa Kings Basketball Club won by 53-46 against Unity Basketball Club.

One of the organisers, Madoda Kumalo, said the friendly match format keeps the local clubs engaged ahead of their respective basketball seasons in the city.

Kumalo said in March they will host a two-day “bragging rights tournament” where he winner takes home a floating trophy.

This coming Sunday, March 2, however, Game Week Six will be played.

To kickstart Game Week Six, Sharks’ female team will take on Pride at 12pm, followed by Gugulethu playing against Langa male’s at 1pm.

Sharks’ male team will then take on Delft at 2pm, followed by Gladiators and Pride at 3pm, with Khaltsha Stars and Cape Waves closing off Game Week Six at 4pm.
