From Monday, March 10 to Sunday March 16, 2025, the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) invites South Africans to celebrate National Gardens Week by enjoying free access to all of the country’s national botanical and zoological gardens.
For the first time, SANBI is hosting this nationwide event, welcoming families, nature lovers, and wellness seekers to immerse themselves in South Africa’s extraordinary biodiversity—which is one of the richest in the world.
Home to over 95,000 unique species, the country’s botanical and zoological gardens play a critical role in conservation, education, and providing serene spaces for all to enjoy.
Nature’s wonderland
Each garden offers a unique ecosystem, from the fynbos-covered slopes of Kirstenbosch to the lush, tropical expanses of the Lowveld National Botanical Garden.
Whether you’re looking to unwind in a peaceful green space, explore rich biodiversity, or simply breathe in the fresh air, National Gardens Week is the perfect opportunity to reconnect with nature.
Grow Your Joy
This year’s theme, “Grow Your Joy,” encourages visitors to embrace the mental, emotional, and physical benefits of time spent in nature.
In an increasingly fast-paced world where daily stress, work pressures, and economic challenges take a toll on well-being, the natural world offers a much-needed refuge.
Studies have shown that being in green spaces can reduce stress, improve mood, and boost overall health, making National Gardens Week an opportunity to experience these benefits first-hand.
