The State said there were still ongoing financial investigations in the murder case of South African Rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and his friend Chef Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane.
This was revealed by the deputy director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) advocate Lawrence Gcaba on Thursday morning at the Durban Magistrate’s Court. Gcaba was giving reasons as to why the State was asking for postponement in this case.
AKA and his friend were gunned down last year in February outside Wish Restaurant on Florida Road in Durban. To date, seven men have been arrested for his murder. Siyabonga and Malusi Ndimande are in Swaziland, and the five men – Lindokuhle Mkhwanazi, Lindani Ndimande, Eddie Myeza, Mziwethemba Gwabeni and Lindokuhle Ndimande – in custody.
“There is a thorough financial investigation in this matter that needs to be looked at in detail. When we come back, hopefully the investigation will be completed,” said Gcaba.
He added that more people had been approached for warning statements and there might be more arrests based on what they uncover.
Gcaba said they also needed to know what would happen at the Manzini Magistrate’s Court in Swaziland regarding whether the Ndimande brothers would get bail and be extradited to South Africa. The case was postponed to November 29.
When the five men were applying for bail, the State revealed that R800 000 was paid into Gwabeni’s bank account a day after AKA and Motsoane were killed, by Mfunda Gcaba.
After this matter stood down, Mkhwanazi and Myeza appeared again in the magistrate’s court on other different matters.
