Tyla? Oh, you know her! She's been making headlines since day one, and in the latest edition of “V Magazine”, she's serving up style, sass and serious talent.
The South African singer and performer spoke about her self-titled debut album, showing off her signature flair while dropping gems about her journey to the top.
Throughout the feature, the “Jump” hitmaker unpacks her early influences and how they've shaped her into the powerhouse she is today.
"All those years of writing, making music by myself, performing in talent shows or for family, acting in plays - each moment helped shape me," she said.
These experiences, while not always glamorous, laid the groundwork for her evolution as both performer and artist.
Fashion and music have always been Tyla's passions but she admits she didn't always have the means to fully explore them. Now, with resources at her fingertips, she's embracing boldness.
"I’ve loved fashion and music since I was very young, but I never really had the resources ... Now, I’m able to play around more and get the pieces and wear the things that I’ve always wanted to wear," she explained.
Musically, Tyla is on a mission. She aims to blend African sounds with global influences like pop, R&B, afrobeats, and amapiano.
"My direction has always been to take African sounds to the world and mix... together and make it huge," she said.
Her debut album represents the culmination of years of experimentation and growth.
"All those years of trying, making terrible songs, making okay songs, brought me to this point," she reflects, "where I’ve made a sound that I’m happy bringing to the world."
