Qaadirah Crous, 17, the multi-talented Wynberg Girls’ High sprinter, gave a glimpse of what is to come as the schools’ athletics season gains momentum.
Qaadirah, a Grade 12 pupil, produced several sterling performances at two meetings the past week but now has a brief respite before the Western Province championships at the end of the month.
Last week, during the Southern Zone A section meeting at Green Point Stadium, she won both the long jump and triple events, and anchored her school’s under-19 4x100m relay team to victory. Her fine performances contributed to the combined Wynberg Girls’ and Boys’ finishing third on the points table with 560 points.
On Saturday, she clinched both the long and triple jump events at the Southern Zonal Championships. She won the long jump with a personal best leap of 6.40m and went on to win the triple jump with a distance of 12.45m.
Mondale meanwhile ended top of the table with a mammoth score of 694, which was 100 points more than second-placed South Peninsula.
