The Cape Town Softball Association sent two teams to the annual Gordon Monk Softball Tournament in Kempton Park, Gauteng.

The three-day tournament took place from January 30 to February 1.

The tournament is seen as South Africa’s second-largest softball event after the national games. For many players, it was their first plane trip and first taste of high-level competition, offering invaluable growth, exposure and development.

It also presented players with an opportunity to showcase their softball skills against competition from the rest of the country.

The district games can also be seen as a pathway to national team selection for participants who raise their game during the tournament, something that would have motivated many of the Cape Town newcomers in the national competition.
