Ocean View High School’s girls under-18 soccer squad was crowned Gavin Manuel Legacy Cup champions, beating Muizenberg High 2-1 in a tense penalty shootout after playing to a 1-all draw, in Mitchell’s Plain, earlier this week. The penalty shoot was taken in the form of a one-on-one run at the keeper from the halfway mark. This was their first appearance at the competition. Tournament organisers hailed the 8th edition of the event as another success, highlighting the growing standard of school football and the importance of creating opportunities for youth participation, especially during the school holiday period.
