Westridge FC has been a well-known name in Mitchells Plain’s football community for nearly five decades, yet they are still chasing their first major trophy outside the Local Football Association.

Westridge coach Ismail du Toit believes their 9–0 second-round win over Golden Stars of the Hanover Park LFA in SAFA Cape Town’s Coke Cup has sparked a new wave of confidence — and that 2025 might be the year the club finally celebrates its 49th anniversary with a major trophy.

The match, which took place at the Rooikrans Avenue sportsground on Sunday, was a one-sided affair with Naza Klaasen (2), Ricardo Foster, Charls Shuller, Keayante Coetzee, Asif George, Devon Bailey, Clint Engelbrecht and Nazier Smith getting in on the demolition job.

Mr Du Toit, who has been coaching at the club for over a decade and has shared in 15 Champions League titles at LFA level, now believes his 2025 squad has what it takes to go all the way in this season’s Coke Cup campaign.

“The Coke Cup is always a big one. Last year, we were knocked out in the quarter-finals, but the way we played showed we have a team capable of reaching the final,” said Mr Du Toit.

“I believe that once you’re in a final, your chances are as good as your opponent’s. How great would it be to win the cup and go into the 2026 season as Coke champions — just in time for our 50th anniversary celebrations."
