Portland High School’s senior netball team is set to fly to Gauteng next month to compete in the national Kay Motsepe Championships.
Although the Mitchell’s Plain-based school narrowly lost 11–12 in the Ubuntu section final of the Western Cape Championships at Bredasdorp Primary School on Saturday, they will still join the winners, De Kruine from Touws River, at the national finals in Boksburg on Friday, July 25 and Saturday, July 26.
Coach Tania Solomons, the school's netball coordinator, said she was delighted for the players, especially considering their hard work and dedication.

"We found the tournament very demanding and extremely competitive. Our players greatly benefited from the experience," she said.
Ridwaan Williams, principal of the school, lauded the players' achievements.
“We have a history as a school that competes with the best. On the athletics track, we’ve come up against top teams and proudly showcased our talents. Now, having qualified for the finals, we’ll be going out to bring glory to the school,” he said.
“You might ask why I’m so confident — because I can be. We have the best coach around in Ms Solomons,” he added.
Ms Solomons, who has been at the helm of netball coaching at the school since 1996, is an active member of the Western Province high schools netball fraternity.
“I don’t know so much about being the best. I know the competition is going to be tough, but we are prepared. We have a team of dedicated players who are determined to achieve and bring sporting glory to our school,” she said
