New Western Province Cricket Association club cricket co-ordinator, Thabo Spelman.
Western Province Cricket Association (WPCA) has stepped up its readiness for the new club cricket season with the appointment Thabo Spelman as its new club cricket co-ordinator.
Spelman, who holds a Bachelor's degree in Sports Science from the Nelson Mandela University, says he’s looking forward to the new challenge in his cricketing journey. He succeeds Lindsay O’Malley, who left the post earlier this year. He is, however, no newcomer to the set-up and has been involved in all spheres of youth cricket at the association for more than five years.
Spelman says to use the term “making things bigger and better” is somewhat misleading because the job comes with its challenges.
“It a case of constantly moving and adjusting to challenges at hand and making decisions accordingly. Yes, we want to grow the sport and become the leading provincial association.
“I cannot say we will not have disputes at the end of the season but it would be good to end the season without any disputes. But yes, I’m looking forward to the season and I hope we can make it great,” said Spelman with a smile.
Clinton du Preez, cricket services manager, expressed his delight with Spelman’s appointment. “It’s our pleasure to welcome Thabo as the new club cricket co-ordinator,” he said.
Du Preez also confirmed the association will also be implementing a club cricket performance scorecard for the coming season.
The scorecard will track team performances; win ratios; matters pertaining to governance and compliance; club quality index; and listed complaints.
