Montana Vikings girls’ team in celebratory mood after defeating Hot Shots Basketball Club 29-20 in the third Junior NBA cup final match, played at UCT, on Sunday.
Montana Vikings were crowed winners in both the girls’ and boys’ junior NBA and junior WNBA games hosted by NBA Africa in UCT at the weekend.
Heideveld Basketball Club’s girls’ under-16 side finished in third place in their section.
Vikings players Ayabonga Jessica Noncunga and Josh Mvumbi got the nod as the MVPs for their showing in the weekend games.
A total of 17 boys and 14 girls teams aged under-16 participated in the two-day event, which also included a junior NBA clinic for the 500 athletes.
The aim of the clinic was to teach fundamental basketball and life skills in an effort to improve youth basketball experience for the players, coaches and parents as well as training sessions for local coaches.
Montana Vikings beat Eagles Basketball Club in the boys’ final, while the girls’ Vikings side overcame Hot Shots Basketball Club to claim their crown in the girls’ final.
Fish Hoek High School, Gugulethu Hustlers Basketball Club, Heideveld Basketball Club, Blouberg Basketball Academy, Hout Bay Snipers Basketball Club and Khayelitsha Rising Stars were among the clubs that took part in the games.
