PLAYERS from Kimberley’s very own C-Pac 2 Pool Club recently performed well at the South African Blackball Pool National Championships held at the at the Sun Coast Casino in Durban.
The players’ skill and determination left a lasting mark of excellence in the tournament.
Amidst a field of the nation’s top players, the Kimberley players showcased their skill and determination, earning recognition for their outstanding performances across various categories.
In the junior section, C-Pac 2 Pool Club’s rising stars proved their mettle with remarkable displays on the tables.

The club’s Ashwon Thomas proved that he’s certainly a promising talent by securing an impressive 12th place finish in the Under-18 group, earning himself a coveted spot in the upcoming World Championships.
However, Thomas faces a daunting challenge ahead as he must cover his own expenses for the international event; expenses amounting to approximately R60,000.
In addition to Ashwon’s achievements, 13-year-old Mason Langford also demonstrated his potential, competing in his inaugural major competition and finishing in commendable 38th place overall.
Although Mason’s journey in the singles event was cut short in the semi-finals, his performance speaks volumes about his promising future in the sport.
Mason spoke to the DFA recently and shared his thoughts on his recent experience playing at the South African Championships, saying that it was a thrilling learning experience.
“It was a wonderful opportunity and a refreshing change of scenery,” Mason remarked. “I enjoyed competing with players from all over South Africa and picked up valuable tips and tricks along the way.”
Looking ahead, Mason confidently stated that the SA Pool circuit has not seen the last of him. “Next year, I plan to return stronger, better, and more prepared,” he said determinedly.
The tournament also featured the Women’s section and the Seniors division, where the players from C-Pac 2 Pool Club continued to excel amidst stiff competition.
Kelly-Jane Steenkamp emerged as the top player representing the Northern Cape, showcasing her prowess on the pool table.
Similarly, Andile May distinguished herself as the premier senior player, further highlighting the club’s wealth of talent across different age categories.
The DFA learned that in the final week of the championships, the Mens and Masters teams stepped up to face their counterparts from the other provinces, intensifying the battle for supremacy.
Despite the fierce competition, Rivaldo Jeaven and Rathnam Naidoo emerged as the standout performers for the Northern Cape, underscoring the club’s dominance in the tournament.
Overall, the C-Pac 2 Pool Club’s resounding success at the South African Blackball Pool National Championships is a testament to their dedication, skill, and unwavering commitment to excellence.
As they bask in the glory of their achievements, Kimberley takes pride in their representatives, who have showcased the city’s talent on the national stage.
