Mitchell’s Plain Cricket Club faced Sherwood Manenberg in a Western Province Cricket Association (WPCA) Division 1D match, at Westridge Oval, on Saturday.

Mitchell’s Plain won the toss and elected to bowl first. The visitors recorded 233 all out in 46 overs.

In reply, Mitchell's Plain posted 145 all out in the 50th over.

Shakil Patowari’s 51 off 106 balls was not enough to secure victory for the home side. On the bowling front, Mearon Beukes performed best with ball in hand, taking two wickets for 42 runs in 10 overs.

For the visitors, Rudi van der Poel top-scored with 96 runs and destroyer-in-chief, Cody Damons claimed six wickets for 27.

Despite sitting in sixth place on the log after 14 matches, player-coach Ridiwaan Williams is confident MPCC can find their groove in their remaining games.

“The big goal was to secure league status as we are in the process of building the next generation,” he said.

MPCC has been blessed with player longevity over the last few years but it is time for the next generation to come to the fold.

“We have been introducing players as young as 15 to the first team in order for them to gain some valuable experience,” Williams said.

“With our status now secured for the season we will look to rebuild the first team with a much younger look.”

MPCC travel to Khayelitsha on Saturday in what is expected to be another tough battle as their neighbours are currently contesting for promotion.
