Pitch installation at Woodville Primary

Woodville Primary’s under-13 cricket squad lend a hand under the watchful eye of one of the contractors, during last week’s pitch installation at the school.

The JP 21 Foundation celebrated its eighth cricket pitch installation at Woodville Primary School, in Woodlands, last week. Established in 2015 by former Proteas cricketer, JP Duminy, a former Strandfontein resident, the foundation has gone to great lengths over the years to promote the game among primary schools in the area. It currently has 32 schools registered with the foundation and have partnered with PPC Cement for eight years install the pitches.

“This is a firm commitment to make cricket accessible and use cricket to spark healthy behaviour,” said project manager for the foundation, Jemaine Cloete.

The foundation and PPC Cement have had a long-standing partnership to install pitches,at schools in Mitchell’s Plain, this being the eighth one in eight years.

“This pitch will ease the pressure on our fixtures and will benefit the surrounding schools as well, as it will be used in the JP21 Primary School League due to kick off next term,” he said.

Over and above getting youngsters to play, the foundation also runs development sessions such as its cricketing orientation course held earlier this month. The foundation will also host a programme during the upcoming school holidays.
