The Trauma Centre for Survivors of Violence and Torture in District Six, in collaboration with Health Care Workers for Palestine-South Africa (HCW4P-SA), will host a fund-raising concert called Voices for Palestine on Saturday, September 6.
Member of HCW4P-SA, Dr Feroza Amien, said that the prolonged conflict in the region has resulted in hundreds of thousands of people being starved and displaced.
“This event is a celebration of resilience, community, and global solidarity. Proceeds will be shared by HCW4P-SA and the Trauma Centre,” she said.
Trauma Centre director, Marguerite Holtzhausen, said her organisation and HCW4P-SA support the most vulnerable people in society.
"Come enjoy the concert on September 6 at our beautiful premises, Cowley House, District Six, for a fun-filled family event," she said.
The jam-packed cultural gathering will be a showcase of solidarity through creativity, featuring a rich and diverse programme of music, poetry, performance art, and more.
This concert will feature musical performances with performances by Guido & Chiara, Saskia Borman and friends, Ms Holtzhausen and Belinda Jackson, Saalim Ismail, Naz Leeman, Felix and the Cats led by Nur Felix and Jwan Shaer performing a traditional Palestinian song.
The concert will be hosted by beloved radio personality and actor Mehboob Bawa-aka The Love Doctor. There will be a poetry reading by Megan Choritz.
The concert is scheduled to run from 11am to 1pm, followed by a vibrant cultural celebration from
1pm to 4pm. Attendees can indulge in delicious Palestinian food, tea, coffee, and cakes available for purchase. The festivities will also feature face painting, henna art, interactive drumming sessions, and an array of craft stalls showcasing Palestinian regalia and merchandise for sale.
Additionally, guests will have the opportunity to participate in a guided heritage tour of the Trauma Centre located in Cowley House, District Six. This tour will highlight the Centre's significant role in the liberation struggle, where it has been dedicated to supporting victims of trauma and mental health challenges for over 32 years.
The concert will take place at the Trauma Centre, at the Cowley House, 126 Chapel Street, District Six, on Saturday, September 6.
Tickets cost R150 a person for those attending the concert only, while it will cost R200 a person to attend the concert and heritage tour of the facility.
