In a pioneering move to empower women artisans, Unisa’s Inhlanyelo Hub has launched the Bosadi Artisan Entrepreneurship Programme.
This innovative initiative aims to equip women with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in their entrepreneurial ventures. It combines business development with personal growth, addressing the unique challenges faced by women entrepreneurs.
Through interactive, hands-on sessions, participants will foster collaboration and personal mastery, preparing themselves for long-term success. To further support their entrepreneurial journey, participants will receive starter equipment to confidently launch their businesses.
CEO of Inhlanyelo Hub, Professor Raphael Mpofu highlighted the programme's significance: "The Bosadi Artisan Entrepreneurship Programme makes a substantial contribution to skills development, job creation, and community well-being.“
He added that the aim of this programme was also to reduce unemployment and foster sustainable economic growth in South Africa.
The inaugural cohort comprises 75 women who have qualified as artisans or are in their final year of various artisan fields, including plumbing, motor mechanics, and electricians.
“This programme aligns with Unisa's Catalytic Research Niche Areas, promoting women's participation in economic activities,” Mpofu added.
By providing a supportive environment and essential resources, the Bosadi Artisan Entrepreneurship Programme paves the way for women to thrive in their chosen fields.
As these entrepreneurs grow and succeed, they will contribute to the country's economic development, creating a ripple effect of positive change.
Mpofu said the launch of this programme marks a significant milestone in Unisa's commitment to empowering women, and promoting sustainable economic growth.
With its focus on women's economic empowerment, this programme has the potential to make a lasting impact on South Africa's future.
Unisa spokesperson, Tommy Huma, said the Inhlayelo Hub played a critical role in socio-economic upliftment by fostering sustainable economic growth in South Africa.
“Through skills development and job creation , the Hub significantly contributes to community well being and stability,” he said.
By addressing the unique challenges faced by women entrepreneurs, the Bosadi Artisan Entrepreneurship Programme sets a new standard for inclusive and effective entrepreneurship development.
