Update on Fisherman’s Lane development

Letter to the Editor|Published 2 years ago

Elton Jansen, Ward 43 councillor and chairman of Sub-council 17

In response to the letter from Sias van Zyl, from Cleaner Safer Falsebay (“Fisherman’s Lane work is a downgrade,” Plainsman February 15), here is feedback from a meeting held with officials on Wednesday February 22, when it was agreed that:

• Twenty extra braai areas would be installed to make a total of 25 at an extra cost of about R30 000.

• The parking overflow near the extra braai areas would be increased at an additional cost of about R15 000.

• A gravel link road connecting the fisher folk in the western parking area would be included, at a cost of about R5 000.

• A wooden walkway, roughly about 30m long and 1.5m to 3m wide, would be installed from the braai area across the dunes at a cost of about R350 000.

The installation of new toilets in the western parking area is still being investigated.

However, we will only provide a plug-in sewer and water connection point under this contract.

Ancunel Steyn, a senior landscape architect for the City of Cape Town, is doing further research on the possibility of using container-type toilets.

The toilet location will be determined on-site at the next site meeting on Thursday March 2.

Extra costs for the sewer and water connections are possibly R6 000.

This is a re-measurable contract, and all the extras are part of the normal work scope.
