Aisha Dennis, member of Mitchell’s Plain Opposing Abuse, died.
Mareldea Sonday, Operational Manager: Mitchell’s Plain Network Opposing Abuse
Aisha Dennis, 66, from Eastridge, a stalwart of Mitchell’s Plain Network Opposing Abuse, died on Wednesday April 27 after battling cancer.
She joined the organisation in 2011 on completion of a skills development programme.
She was very quiet and an introvert.
Slowly but surely she claimed her space and became a voice for the voiceless.
She worked for the organisation at Mitchell’s Plain Regional court, where she assisted with crisis counselling, completing sworn statements and referring abused men, women and children for further assistance.
Ms Dennis was an accredited facilitator and knowledgeable about substance abuse.
Not only was she very humble, she was empathetic and committed to serving the community, she served with pride and a spirit of humility.
She was a lady of etiquette, followed protocol and believed there was no substitute for honest hard work and always reminded members “doen net wat jy moet doen”.
She was a team player, very articulate, she was well liked by young and old, her colleagues, and clients as well as those stakeholders - so much so that she received the “Volunteer of the year title” for two consecutive years.
On Wednesday April 27 she attended work like normal, without anyone realising how sick she was and that was her last day at court.
The legacy she has left behind will have a lasting impression on those who were fortunate to have known her.
On behalf of the board of governance, management ,staff and members of the Mitchell’s Plain Network Opposing Abuse we render our sincere condolences to the family and friends.
She was a beautiful soul – a star, who shone like a diamond.
You will surely be missed.
In silence you suffered, with patience you bore till God called you home to suffer no more.
You will always be in our hearts.
