Rocklands couple John and Elizabeth Dudley celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with family and friends last Thursday, May 15.

"It's such a blessing to celebrate their 60th anniversary with them," said their daughter Denise Hartzenberg.

Mr Dudley, 85, and Ms Dudley, 79, were born in George and Groot Brak, respectively. The two met in Cape Town.

"I was renting a room from her mother's family when I saw her for the first time. It was love at first sight," he recalled.

The Dudleys settled in Rocklands with their five children in 1986, after living in Kensington and Valhalla Park. They also have 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Their youngest son died in 2011.

So what's their advice to young married couples?

"Our advice to young people is to be honest and faithful with each other. Get your life in order and always put God first in whatever decisions you make. Appreciate what you have and each other," Mr Dudley said.
