Mandalay hosted its Community Celebration Day at the local sports fields, bringing residents together for a day of unity and fun.
The inauguration of the event took place on Wednesday, September 24, at the Mandalay Sports Field.
The City of Cape Town, in support of the event, brought a vibrant and engaging programme that featured a range of activities. These included 7-a-side soccer, netball, touch rugby, a Mandalay women’s drug awareness drive, a potjiekos competition, aerobics, tug of war, indigenous games, and a jumping castle for children.
The event aimed to foster community spirit and offered a fun-filled day for all who attended. It drew residents together, highlighting both community engagement and the importance of recreational activities in strengthening social ties, said Sakhile Shakes Mahlaba, community leader and member of the Mandalay Community Celebration Day organising committee.
He said the celebration marked an important step in building unity in the area.
