The Aweh Cultural Showcase, one of Cape Town’s biggest celebrations of coloured culture and heritage, returns to the V&A Waterfront Amphitheatre on Saturday, September 20.
The free event will run from 12pm to 3pm and promises an exciting afternoon of music, dance, fashion, and storytelling.
This year’s showcase blends tradition and modern creativity, said Alex Cupido, founder of Bruinchild Media.
The programme features Khoi and San poetry, gospel, hip-hop, spiritual dance, and a fashion-meets-film experience by Expose.
A partnership with Uthando South Africa will also highlight the Lovenaire Tjommies Sporting Club, a youth initiative that uses music and sport to rise above poverty and violence. Their minstrel troupe and Cape Malay choir will add to the line-up with performances that celebrate unity and resilience.
The Aweh Cultural Showcase has grown into a platform where heritage and innovation meet. Last year, more than 3 000 people attended, and an even bigger crowd is expected this year, he said.
Entry is free, and all are invited to join this celebration of history, culture, and creativity at the Waterfront.
