Bellville rapper illRow has dropped two major releases this June that cement his presence as a voice for raw, unfiltered street narratives.

On Friday, June 6, illRow, also known as Brandon Titus, released the music video for his single POS, a stripped-down and powerful representation of Cape Town’s lesser-seen realities.

Known for his conscious lyricism, illRow makes it clear that POS is not “gangsta rap,” but rather a message about vigilance and awareness, especially for those navigating complex urban environments.

The acronym, short for Op ‘n POS, Cape Flats slang for being alert, serves as the foundation of the track.

“This is about being aware of your surroundings. It’s not about glorifying anything—it’s a reminder to stay sharp,” he told Plainsman in an interview on Wednesday, June 24.

“The people who follow or listen to me will understand that I’m aware, never slipping.”

Visually, the POS video leans into its message with stark black-and-white footage and imagery of guard dogs, symbols of loyalty and territory.

“Dogs are alert; they guard what’s theirs. Our people do the same,” said illRow.

Born in Mandalay and now based in Bellville, illRow began his music journey in high school, starting with beat-making in 2009 before shifting to rapping.

Influenced by underground artists, he found a natural outlet in music.

“I’m an introvert—music became my outlet. It was the easiest form of expression,” he said.

illRow teamed up with Worcester-based rapper Ello-Jay (pictured) for a new track titled HOSHJA, released on Friday, June 20.

Just two weeks after the POS video drop, illRow teamed up with Worcester-based rapper Ello-Jay for a new track titled HOSHJA, released on Friday, June 20.

The single is a high-energy anthem that celebrates pride in the Cape Flats, Kasi culture, and the hustle of township life.

Produced by Lynexbeats, known for his work with YoungstaCPT, the track delivers gritty beats and street-smart lyrics that pay homage to perseverance and everyday victories.

“This song is for the people who keep showing up for themselves, even when it’s tough,” Ello-Jay said. HOSHJA is available on all digital platforms.
