The Lentegeur police crime prevention unit swooped in on two properties in Woodlands on Saturday March 8, where they found and 500 live rounds of 9mm ammunition and drugs worth R6 000, respectively. Two men, 18 and 22, were arrested on related charges and appeared in the Mitchell's Plain Magistrate's Court on Monday March 10. They were released on bail.

Two Mitchell's Plain men, 18 and 22, were released on bail on Monday March 10, after they appeared in the Mitchell's Plain Magistrate's Court on charges of possession of illegal drugs and possession of illegal ammunition, respectively.
According to Lentegeur police spokesperson, Constable Navon van Houten, the suspects were arrested on Saturday March 8, when the station's crime prevention unit (CPU) raided two properties in Woodlands.
"CPU received information about drugs and firearms being kept at 31 Persius Street and 18 Watt Court in Woodlands," he said.
The team of officers split up and raided both houses at the same time. The 18-year-old man, who is allegedly affiliated to the Fancy Boys gang, was taken into custody at the Persius Street property after police discovered 123 packets of tik (methamphetamine) and 20 ecstasy tablets with an estimated street value of R6 000 in one of the rooms, Constable Van Houten said.
The 22-year-old man was arrested at the Watt Court property, where police found 500 live rounds of 9mm ammunition in a hidden compartment in the kitchen.
Lentegeur police chief Colonel Umavathie Rameshwarnath commended the officers for the weekend's successful raids to curb the on-going gang tension in the area.
