Jason Orpheus has released his new single, Trainwreck on Friday May 31.
Singer and songwriter Jason Orpheus, 40, has released his new single Trainwreck, which deals with the challenges of love.
This is the former Eastridge resident’s second single after his song called Ghost was released in 2023.
“I really felt that after the Covid-19 pandemic nothing was the same anymore. I wasn’t the same anymore. And I didn’t feel I was the same artist anymore either. Inspired by Covid-19, experiencing so much loss, I felt Jason Orpheus had been forged out of the fires of loss and struggle, and better reflected who I was now as an artist,” he said.
Described as a pop song with flavours of Afro-pop, Trainwreck is a mid-tempo track that underpins the conversation of love.
Trainwreck was inspired by Jason’s experience with self-destructive behaviour and compromises that can often result from heartache, a lack of closure, and denial in the aftermath of a failed relationship.
“Trainwreck for me was the question of love. I’ve been used in the name of love and satisfaction and I needed to express that in the wake of a particularly eye-opening relationship,” he said.
He grew up to the sound of his mother always singing hymns around the house.
It is one of the first sounds he remembers as a child.
“As a child, I was part of school choirs, but it wasn't until high school that I took up music as a subject and the violin as an instrument. I was about 13. I never used the violin before in my performances, but since the rebrand, the violin is included when I perform,” he said.
Trainwreck is written and performed by Orpheus, produced by Latheem Gabriel and mastered by Khalil Singh. It is available on all major streaming services.
Orpheus will be releasing his second EP later this year.
