Norman Jantjies, Mitchell’s Plain community police forum chairperson
The Mitchell’s Plain community police forum (CPF) is concerned about the ongoing gang-related shootings and murders in Mitchell’s Plain.
Of greater concern are the ruthless and random shootings of innocent people, especially children. We trust that the affected families will receive the necessary support to deal with this trauma.
We, furthermore, need to see increased and more effective and integrated policing and expect that the South African Police Service will embark on action similar to what they do when police personnel is being targeted.
The Mitchell’s Plain CPF wishes to work together with the Lentegeur and Strandfontein CPFs to seek solutions to this gang violence.
Most of these incidents involve firearms, so gun control needs to be strictly enforced.
The CPF is hoping to finalise a local anti-gang strategy. Its implementation should contribute towards a safer Mitchell’s Plain.
