Mitchell’s Plain police station’s Women’s Network engaged with shoppers and shared holiday safety tips for children during Child Protection Week at Liberty Promenade Shopping Centre on Friday June 7.
Network member and police operation support commander Lieutenant Colonel Cleo Arnoldus said adults were responsible for keeping children safe from harm.
“All members of society need to play a part in ensuring children are nurtured and safe. Listening to children is the number one indicator in assisting their safety and well-being,” she said.
She said children were often ignored or not believed when they spoke out about being abused.
“Parents, professionals and community members need to hear what children say and seek advice to ensure they respond appropriately when children speak out about abuse.
“Remember, together we can make and be the difference,” said Lieutenant Colonel Arnoldus.
