A Westridge primary school’s scholar patrol members who volunteer their early mornings and late afternoons have pledged to be “better safe than sorry”.
Ridgeville Primary School volunteers report for scholar patrol duty during school days at 7.30am and are the last to leave at about 3pm.
They held a special demonstration showcasing their duties, as they stopped traffic, guided pedestrians and also saluted those in service, including police officers and bus drivers.
The outgoing patrol, made up of Grade 7 pupils, handed over their bibs, equipment and caps to the incoming patrol, made up of Grade 6 pupils, in Park Avenue on Friday October 23.
Teacher Luke Mosime said these pupils gave up their mornings and their afternoons to keep their school community safe.
“We need more people like them to make the world a better place, to carry on their duties and to walk in their footsteps and with them we can only move forward stronger,” he said.
Captain Daniel Joorst said it was all about keeping the pupils safe when crossing the road.
