Being on the runway is nothing new to the stunning former Mrs Africa Globe 2016, Rene Roberts-Patel, who would strut down the runway anytime if it involved community development and charity.
Ms Roberts-Patel, a former Westridge resident took part in the prestigious 20th anniversary Mrs Globe 2017 pageant, and placed third on Sunday December 11 in Hainan, China.
She said this was one of the highlights of her pageant career. “It was an unforgettable experience. I have made contacts and friends from across the globe, and have also learnt that no matter where you come from, and participating in such a big event, representing your people on an international stage, we are all human and should never think less of ourselves.
“I have made a lasting impression at the Mrs Globe 2017 pageant, and am glad that I had to opportunity to represent my home town.
“It was an experience of a lifetime,” she said.
Ms Roberts-Patel has been participating in beauty pageants since the age of 13.
When asked how she has kept motivated throughout the years she said: “Life, and the fact that I am able to change people’s lives through all the charity, empowerment initiatives I am involved with,” she said.
Ms Roberts-Patel said Mrs Globe was one of many international pageants for married women, but definitely attracted the highest standard of mature women who had accomplished much in their lives.
“They look at how you have impacted your society, how you contribute to changing people’s lives, what you have achieved as a business woman. Of course, you should look the part for the specific title as they look for ambassadors to represent their brands internationally,” she said.
Ms Roberts-Patel also won the Contestants’ Choice award, as well as the Magic Award, named for the theme of the 20th anniversary of the pageant.
The president of the Mrs Globe organisation nominated Ms Roberts-Patel for the award. She handed over her Mrs Africa Globe title to her successor Kediditmetse Tswai on Friday December 16.
Ms Roberts-Patel is proud of her achievements and said she would continue motivating and mentoring all the new Mrs Africa Globes and continental winners for their international pageants.
