The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) on Thursday, said they were still searching for a man who was presumed drowned at South Beach in Durban.
NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon said the Durban duty crew and the KZN Surf Rescue Network received reports of a drowning on Monday, December 16, at around 6.30pm.
"Police Search and Rescue and Metro Police Search and Rescue conducted search efforts during a severe thunderstorm for the 26-year-old male who was reported to be missing in the surf zone," said Lambinon.
By Thursday, the NSRI said the search efforts for the missing man were ongoing.
"Thoughts, care and compassion are with the family and friends of the missing man in this difficult time," said Lambinon.
In an unrelated case on Wednesday, a child was rescued from a swimming pool in Kloof.
According to ALS Paramedics they received reports of an infant drowning just after 7.30am on Springdale Road.
"Initial reports are that the child was pulled from the swimming pool and CPR was in progress," said spokesperson Garrith Jamieson.
He said when medics arrived on scene the child was "well awake and crying".
"Paramedics assessed the infant and obtained an accurate history from the family members, and it was found that apparently the child was found in the pool floating," he said.
"Fortunately, the family members were well aware of CPR and started CPR whilst paramedics were en route," said Jamieson.
"The child was in a stable condition and was transported by ALS paramedics to a nearby hospital for a further check-up. This shows the importance of people knowing CPR as CPR does save lives."
