The Q.Rock Foundation will hold a Youth Day celebration in collaboration with non-governmental organisations in Mitchell’s Plain.
They will share opportunities with NGOs within the community to help young people and rebuild the communities, said founder Quinton Swartz, 50, from Lentegeur. The opportunities would focus on employment, edu-tainment and training to name a few.
“I have been in the hip-hop industry since the 80s. We are about education and information, I took what I learned in the 80s and brought it back. It is about educating the youth and teaching them a skill,” said Mr Swartz, who founded Q.Rock in 2000.
“We also do it through edu-tainment. I do this in communities within Mitchell’s Plain. These opportunities sometimes don’t find us and it’s important we create that space,” he said.
Organisations such as Angels for Life, VonD Kemp Holders and Alliance Francaise Youth will be at the event on Friday June 16 at Alliance Francaise, in Wall Street, Portland.
“NGOs need to share information with one another to assist the next person so that we can help each other grow,” said Mr Swartz.
VondD, C-Flo, YungD, Caryn, Mac, DOC, and the Vortex Dance Crew, among others, will perform.
