Portland High School pupils used their talents to raise their voices against gender-based violence (GBV).
Performing arts coordinator and creative arts specialist Kingsley Daniels said it was important to highlight the importance of healthy relationships and individuals.
They promoted their messages on Friday February 23 in partnership with the City of Cape Town traffic department bikers as role models.
“By keeping the tone friendly and the language English, we can ensure that our message is accessible to all individuals present,” she said.
Ms Daniels explained that a healthy relationship was one where both individuals felt respected, supported and valued.
“It is built on trust, communication, and mutual understanding. In a healthy relationship, both partners feel free to express their thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment or reprisal,” she said.
Ms Daniels said they conflict needed to be addressed constructively – with a focus on finding solutions that benefit both parties.
“Ultimately, a healthy relationship is one where both individuals feel happy, secure, and fulfilled,” she said.
The pupils were given the opportunity to express themselves and build their confidence in performing in front of an audience including their peers.
