Mitchell’s Plain police arrested a man, 22, and woman, 38, after being tipped off about an exchange of a firearm and ammunition.
On Saturday March 13, at 6am, members of K9 Cape Town SAPS were informed by road runners that they saw a man giving a woman a firearm, which was hidden inside a black suitcase.
Police drove by an open field close to the corner of Spine Road and Swartklip Road and saw the two suspects who fitted the description.
Officers stopped and searched the suspects and recovered a 9mm Beretta pistol without a serial number and one magazine with four live rounds in the suspects’ possession.
The two suspects, appeared in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s Court on Monday March 15 on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
In another case, a Portland man was arrested for illegally selling liquor.
On Friday March 12, at 10.40am, Mitchell’s Plain SAPS searched a house in Nile Way, Portland and found liquor, including beer, vodka, whiskey, brandy and gin totalling 110 litres of wine.
Police arrested a man, 33, who faces a charge of dealing in liquor without a licence.
In another case on the same day, at 3pm, Mitchell’s Plain police arrested a man with a firearm and ammunition in Rocklands.
SAPS officers were patrolling in Canary Street when they noticed a man walking fast when he saw the police patrol vehicle.
Police stopped and searched him and recovered a rusted 7.65 Beretta on the right side of the suspect’s waist. The firearm had one magazine and the suspect also had six rounds in his possession. The firearm serial number was filled off.
Police arrested the man, 39, who faces charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. The suspect appeared in court on Monday March 15.
In another case, a Beacon Valley man was arrested for possession of heroin on Wednesday night, March 10.
Mitchell’s Plain SAPS received information about drugs being dealt at a premises in Jukskei Street, Beacon Valley, and saw two suspicious men in the street.
When police searched the surrounding area, they found 21 straws of heroin on the ground. Police arrested a 49-year-old man on charges relating to the possession of heroin. He appeared in court on Friday March 12.
