There were some tears but mostly big smiles when Mitchell’s Plain schools opened on Wednesday January 15, especially for the little ones who started their first day at big school.
Six-year-old Janique Willemse could not wait for her first day in Grade 1 at Mitchell’s Plain Primary School in Westridge. “I want to become a doctor one day,” she said.
Six-year-old Tyrese Demes was excited for his first day at big school. The little star, who is in Grade 1 at Mitchell’s Plain Primary School, wants to become a carpenter like his father.

Five-year-old Lisa Plaatjies, who had a her first day in Grade R at Parkhurst Primary in Westridge, wants to be a dentist when she is older. “She wants to see what they do with the teeth because she is looking for hers,” her mother Medina Plaatjies shared.
Five-year-old Sabir Waterloo started Grade R at Searidge Park Primary in Tafelsig and wants to become a police officer one day.
Five-year-old Mahalia Matthews, who started in Grade R at Imperial Primary in Beacon Valley, has big dreams.“ I want to be a soccer player like Kylian Mbappé and Cristiano Ronaldo,” she said, adding that she also wants to want to be a mermaid and an “actress in big movies” alongside American actress and singer Zendaya.
