Connor’s Haven and Resource Centre held an initiative for disabled people and seniors to commemorate Mandela Day. On Tuesday July 18, they hosted 400 residents at the Lentegeur civic centre, said Lee Haskin, founder of the centre.
“The vulnerable sector is very close to my heart and a sector mostly forgotten within our communities. We wanted to spoil this group with a Christmas in July event,” she said.
Burger King had donated and personally handed out burger meals to children and seniors, she said. They had speakers from Toy Library based at the Red Cross Children’s Hospital and social workers from Age in Action, who spoke on the services available to people living with disabilities and the elderly.
