A new call centre investment in Beacon Valley will bring hundreds of jobs and skills development opportunities for residents of Mitchell’s Plain and surrounding areas.
The site will feature both office space and a training facility for recruits, marking the second major call centre to open in the region since 2022.
This investment was facilitated by CapeBPO, the City of Cape Town’s industry Special Purpose Vehicle.
Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis said the project demonstrates the City’s commitment to supporting local employment.
“It is exciting to see this investment take shape at Beacon Valley, enabling hundreds more jobs for people in Mitchell’s Plain and nearby communities. Local call centre jobs have doubled over the last decade, particularly benefiting young people from lower-income areas and first-time job-seekers," he said.
"This project reflects progress in our industry support and infrastructure investments, which continue to attract jobs and businesses to Cape Town,” he said.
The Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector contributed R23 billion to Cape Town’s economy in 2024, more than double its provincial contribution of R11 billion ten years ago.
Residents of Mitchell’s Plain have shown a strong appetite for opportunities in the sector, contributing 16.3% of Cape Town’s BPO workforce, followed closely by neighbouring Khayelitsha, said James Vos, Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth.
The sector continues to be a powerful driver of inclusive economic growth, creating more than 10 000 new jobs in Cape Town last year alone, said Mr Vos.
“Strengthening and expanding economic hubs closer to where people live is a key City objective. This development in Mitchell’s Plain shows how partnerships with industry and CapeBPO can translate into real jobs and economic impact for local communities."
CapeBPO CEO Clayton Williams said the Beacon Valley centre represents an important milestone for the BPO industry in Cape Town and South Africa.
“This project is a catalyst for our broader vision of locating 20 000 seats across the Cape Flats over the next 10 years. With the support of the City and private sector partners, we are confident this vision will become reality,” he said.
The Beacon Valley contact centre builds on the first BPO facility in the greater Mitchell’s Plain region, which opened on Watergate Boulevard in 2022.
