A Westridge woman who survived a brutal five-hour attack has called for her alleged attacker to remain behind bars after his bail hearing was postponed this week.

Micha Renge said she wants bail denied for her ex-boyfriend, Abu Bakhar Ceaser, who appeared in the Mitchell's Plain Magistrate's Court on Monday, February 2, facing a charge of attempted murder.

It is alleged that Mr Ceaser assaulted Ms Renge for five hours at the Mnandi Beach Canal ("'I thought I would die' – Westridge mum survives five-hour brutal attack", Plainsman, January 6).

The case was postponed to Monday, February 10, due to the appointment of a new prosecutor. The accused remains in custody.

Ms Renge told the Plainsman she was not informed that he would be appearing in court, despite being scheduled to attend the bail hearing.

She said she was at court to oppose bail for the accused, adding that she was still grappling with the trauma of the attack.

"I have nightmares of him chasing me and so much more. This is a huge sign of danger. Because of where he is, I know he is not finished with me," she said before he appeared in court.

She said he should not be granted bail as “no one deserves this and to endure what I have endured.”

Her mother, Chantal Renge, from New Woodlands, said she remembers the incident as if it happened yesterday and is also calling for bail to be denied.

She said the ordeal began with a phone call that morning when Micha did not arrive at work.

“Her boss called to say she didn’t pitch for work. I thought, let me call her because she never misses calls, but she didn’t answer. I kept calling. Eventually, I called the police and later found her at the day hospital,” she said.

“I just want bail denied. I can’t imagine what she is going through. She is strong and brave. I want her to start counselling. The bruises are slowly disappearing, but mentally, she talks in her sleep. It is something she never did before, and it shows what this did to her. She does not want this man to come out. If he gets bail, he is going to kill her,” she said.
