Man found deceased at Town Centre taxi rank

A man’s body was found at the taxi rank in Town Centre yesterday, Monday,, January 26.

Constable Ndakhe Gwala confirmed that Mitchells Plain police have opened an inquest docket following the discovery of the man, 34, at a taxi rank on 7th Avenue, Eastridge.

The man was found lyingon the pavement with no visible injuries and was declared dead by paramedics. No foul play is suspected.

Sub-council 12 chairperson Solomon Philander said the body was discovered shortly after 6am by on-site security, who immediately contacted Emergency Medical Services.

An ambulance arrived around 7.30am, and the man was confirmed deceased. A family member arrived at 8.32am and identified the deceased, who had been living on the street.

“This incident is a solemn reminder of the challenges faced by vulnerable members of our community, particularly those experiencing homelessness,” Mr Philander said. “Ward 116 extends its heartfelt sympathies to the family, loved ones, and all affected by this loss.”
