A much-needed Christmas boost had arrived for Aunty Viv’s Soup Kitchen in Hangberg, bringing festive cheer — and full cupboards — to a community that relies on its weekly meals.
On Saturday, December 13, the Democratic Alliance (DA) Hout Bay made its final delivery of the year to the soup kitchen, providing two vehicle bootloads of tinned goods, dry foods, fresh and frozen items, as well as sauces, stocks, and spices to support the initiative through the festive season.
Run from the Salamander Road home of 69-year-old Hout Bay resident Vivienne Wichman, Aunty Viv’s Soup Kitchen has been feeding vulnerable community members since 2019.
"This donation will help us feed lots of people in need and we thank everyone involved for this donation," she said.
Ward councillor Roberto Quintas said "Christmas came early" for the soup kitchen. "What a blessing to be able to provide these items from our generous donors to Viv, so that she in turn can bless our vulnerable community members in need of a meal and some festive cheer," he said.
"Bless you, Viv, and thanks to those who give to those whom they will never meet.”
