The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has confirmed that claims of intruders entering Princeton High School in early September were false.

Panic broke out at the school on Thursday, September 4, after reports circulated that two boys, allegedly disguised in school uniforms, had entered the premises searching for a pupil who was absent that day (“Alleged intruders spark panic at Princeton High School,” Plainsman, September 4).

When the Plainsman arrived, parents were queued outside with forms in hand, ready to collect their children. Minutes later, pupils were dismissed and allowed to leave.

WCED spokesperson Millicent Merton said the report was investigated and found to be untrue. The school urged parents not to act on unverified messages and to rely only on official communication issued by the school.

Lentegeur police spokesperson Constable Navon van Houten said they spoke to the principal, who confirmed the message circulating was not true. No official case has been opened.
