Smile Daycare Services in Searidge Park, Tafelsig, opened its doors to the community for a special open day on Friday, November 7.
The event aimed to provide information, resources, and encouragement to parents and caregivers of children with autism, ADHD, and developmental delay disorder.
Founded by principal Narrima Small, the daycare has become a cornerstone of support for families in the Mitchell's Plain area.
What began with home visits three years ago has grown into a full-fledged daycare centre offering specialised care for children aged 3 to 13 - the range aligned with local school district requirements.
“We wanted to create a safe and understanding environment where every child could feel seen and supported,” said Ms Small.

“Our slogan, ‘your smile is our smile,’ reminds us that every bit of progress and joy our children experience is shared by all of us.”
The open day reflected this commitment to care and collaboration. Parents and community members gathered to learn more about the daycare’s programs and to engage with experts in the field of special needs education.
The guest speaker, who was from Autism Western Cape, addressed the audience, emphasising the importance of early intervention and consistent support for children on the autism spectrum.
Representatives from the Western Cape's Mental Health Department were also present, offering insights into mental wellness and emotional regulation in young children. In addition, an occupational therapist and a speech therapist from the Mitchell's Plain District Hospital spoke about their roles and the services they provide.
They shared information on how parents can access support and therapy for their children, emphasising the importance of early intervention and collaboration between healthcare professionals and parents.
Since officially opening, Smile Daycare has continued to expand its reach and resources, with a growing number of children benefiting from its tailored programs. The centre focuses on building confidence, communication skills, and independence from within a nurturing and inclusive environment.
Parents expressed appreciation for the guidance and community connection that Smile Daycare fosters. For Principal Small, the day served as another reminder of her purpose.
