Plainsman journalist and singer-songwriter Marsha Bothma has won an Artes Award 2025.
The Artes Awards are a South African event recognising performing artists and influential community figures, with nominations and community voting, a long history since 1969, and a platform that blends arts and social recognition.
Marsha was one of 20 recipients on Saturday, November 8, at GrandWest Market Hall to receive an Artes Award for her contributions to music, songwriting, and the arts.
“Winning this award is surreal. All the glory goes to God. I am so grateful to my husband, my mother, and everyone who continued to vote to make this possible,” she said.
Marsha, who has been singing since she was eight, has seen her Afrikaans EP singles top the charts and touch many lives. She also recently performed at the Afrikaans is 100 makietie celebration in Paarl, marking 100 years of the Afrikaans language.
She said she looks forward to the future, with new music and shows on the horizon.
