The Liberty Promenade’s 2025 Next Generation Musical Showcase wrapped up in spectacular style this past weekend, as Cape Flats pupils reimagined the theme, “Fairytales: Once Upon a Cape Flats Edition.”

Audiences were treated to vibrant displays featuring classic characters such as Red Riding Hood, Old Mother Hubbard, Quasimodo, and Cinderella.

Each act brought unique interpretations through song, dance, rap, and drama, transforming familiar tales into stories rooted in the heart of the Cape Flats.

Top honours went to Eastville Primary, Spine Road High, Beacon School for LSEN, West End Primary, and Jamaica Way Primary.

Each winning school received R14 000 for its pupils and teachers after impressing judges with their originality, talent, and teamwork. Six pupils were also recognised individually for their outstanding performances.

Adding to the festive spirit, a restaurant chain that specialises in flame-grilled chicken sponsored meals for all the performers, ensuring that the day was as memorable as it was meaningful.

The celebration continues with the Next Generation Community Choice Award, which gives one additional school the chance to win R10 000 towards school improvements.

Members of the public can cast their votes at libertypromenade.co.za/community-choice-award until Wednesday, November 5, at 11.59pm.

Liberty Promenade thanked all the participating schools, performers, coaches, and families for their dedication and creativity. The event once again showcased the extraordinary talent of Cape Flats youth and the unifying power of the performing arts.
