Parents in Rocklands attended an eight-week Positive Parenting Skills Training programme.
The training provided parents with practical tools to understand better and manage their children’s behaviour. It was held every Thursday, October 16, at the Rocklands Library in Mitchell’s Plain.
The sessions were facilitated by a parent education facilitator, certified life coach, and social auxiliary worker, Berenice Scott, alongside Nomsa Mtshungu, a social worker.
Ms Scott said raising children can be challenging, with some children more difficult to manage than others.
“Through these training sessions, The Parent Centre organization aims to support and guide parents in adopting effective, positive approaches to dealing with their children and understanding why children may act out,” she said.
Participants learned about the factors that influence children’s behavior and strategies to manage it. They were encouraged to reflect on past mistakes or unhelpful approaches in raising their children.
They relearned new ways of thinking and behaving that benefit both themselves and their children, helping families grow and develop to reach their potential, she said.
