The Rocklands Baptist Church youth ministry hosted a games evening that brought together young people from the surrounding community and children of church members.

The event held on Friday October 17 aimed to strengthen fellowship among the youth while promoting a message of faith, resilience, and wise decision-making, said Melissa Ross, one of the youth leaders of Rocklands Baptist.

Special guest and Mrs Universe South Africa 2025 finalist, Liezl Curnow, attended the evening as the keynote speaker.

Ms Curnow, one of five women in South Africa to reach the final stage of the Mrs Universe South Africa pageant, encouraged the youth to make good decisions while they are young to secure a positive and purposeful future.

She is completing her final year of a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology and is the founder and CEO of Dandelion House of Restoration.

Based in Belhar, Dandelion House of Restoration focuses on empowering women and fostering hope in local communities, said Ms Ross.

Through outreach projects, the organization provides psychosocial care, creative arts programmes, and essential resources that help women rebuild their confidence and sense of belonging, she said.

The organisation also plays an active role in the fight against gender-based violence, creating safe spaces and offering tools for healing and recovery. The youth enjoyed meeting and engaging with Ms Curnow, who took time to speak to them individually.

Reverend Marlin Felix, senior pastor of Rocklands Baptist, said: “Our youth were privileged to have a Mrs Universe finalist share such an encouraging message. Liezl Curnow was a beautiful inspiration, and one can truly see the light of God shining through her.”

The Rocklands Baptist youth ministry strives to remain relevant to young people, supporting them through faith, counselling, and prayer.

Its programmes focus on guiding the youth toward restoration, resilience, and holistic growth. Youth meetings are held every Friday from 7pm to 9pm at Rocklands Baptist Church, on the corner of Weltevreden and Avenger Roads in Rocklands.
