Mitchell’s Plain police arrested two suspects on Sunday, October 12, linked to the murder of a man who was shot and killed in Beacon Valley.

Mitchell's Plain police spokesperson and station commander Brigadier Brian Muller said the men arrested were in possession of two firearms, and appeared in court on Tuesday, October 14.

In a separate incident, a man was shot and killed at the Town Centre taxi rank.

Brigadier Muller said that on Saturday, October 11, at around 6pm, police identified a suspected getaway vehicle and gave chase using blue lights and sirens. The occupants refused to stop and drove recklessly in an attempt to escape. Officers fired shots at the vehicle’s tyres, forcing it to stop in Eastridge. The men then jumped out and fled on foot, he said.

Community members pointed out the direction in which the suspects had run, leading police to a nearby residence where two men were found hiding inside.

Although no firearms were found in the house, officers were drawn to a wendy house at the back of the property. A woman living there claimed there was nothing inside, Brigadier Muller said.

Police insisted she open the wendy house, where they discovered two firearms hidden inside. The two men were arrested for murder and unlawful possession of firearms, while the woman was arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and defeating the ends of justice, he said.
