The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate has begun resurfacing roadworks in Mountview, Penlyn Estate, Colorado Park, Lentegeur, Portlands, Westridge, and New Woodlands, while road markings will also be repainted in Belthorn Estate.
Work will take place weekdays from 8am to 4.30pm.
In Mountview, Penlyn Estate, and Belthorn Estate, resurfacing is scheduled to conclude on Monday, December 15, while work in Mitchell’s Plain is expected to finish on Friday, November 7.
With the wet season behind them, the City said in a statement that it was able to pick up pace on infrastructure improvements.
“It might seem like a lot of roadworks happening concurrently, but it is work that is necessary to ensure we improve the longevity of the road network and keep Cape Town moving,” said mayoral committee member for urban mobility, Rob Quintas.
“The work comprises resurfacing as well as the raising and replacement, where necessary, of manholes, kerbs, channels, catchpits, frames, valves, and chambers. All road markings will be reinstated with new retro-reflective road marking paint,” he said.
In Mitchell’s Plain, roads affected include Nerine Avenue, Maartblom Street, Aloe Street, Bamboo Road, Vleiroos Road, Waterblom Street, Hydrangea Road, Wilgerboom Road, Waboom Road, Rose Street, Turksvy Street, and Varing Street in Lentegeur.

In Penlyn Estate, roads include Dolomite Avenue, Geduld Road, Johanneson Road, Mersa Street, Gamsa Street, Arba Street, Wahid Street, Jebel Street, and Middel Road.
In Mountview, resurfacing will cover Warden Crescent and Peddie Road, while Belthorn Estate will see the repainting of road markings.
Partial lane closures will be in place during construction. Motorists are encouraged to plan, make use of alternative routes where possible, and allow extra travel time, he said.
The City thanked residents, road users, and businesses for their patience and cooperation, said Mr Quintas.
