The Heinz Park Senior Club is celebrating its first year of making a meaningful difference in the lives of the elderly.

The club opened on Wednesday, September 11, last year and has since provided a safe and joyful space for seniors to come together, learn, and grow.

One of the club’s key partnerships is with the Mitchell’s Plain Network Opposing Abuse, which visits twice a year to teach seniors valuable exercises and raise awareness around abuse, said chairperson Enid Februarie.

These sessions have been empowering and educational, giving the elderly tools to protect themselves and live healthier lives, she said.

Over the past year, the club has offered a variety of activities, including games, knitting, and crocheting, which encourage creativity, mental stimulation, and social connection. Nurses also visit every three months to check seniors’ blood pressure, ensuring that their health is monitored regularly.

Ms Februarie said, “This senior club has become a beacon of hope and happiness for many in our community, and we look forward to seeing it grow and thrive in the years to come.”

The seniors of Heinz Park also extended their gratitude to those who have supported the club, including Anneline Brown, Jo-Ann Abrahams, Nomphumelelo Mphuni and Mark McGee.
