Kids Empire Educare Centre (KEE) in Tafelsig has applied to the City of Cape Town for land to build a permanent Early Childhood Development (ECD) facility.

If approved, the project will see the construction of modern classrooms and facilities, giving more children in the community access to quality early learning, said founder and principal Yusrah Booysen.

Ms Booysen said the application is a significant step towards the realisation of a long-standing dream. Since its inception, KEE has provided a space where young children receive holistic support to prepare them for school and beyond.

With dedicated teachers, the centre emphasises literacy, emotional growth, and social skills, helping children build confidence from an early age, she said.

The new facility is expected to strengthen learning opportunities and create jobs in teaching, support, and administration. Ms Booysen said the land allocation is about more than infrastructure.

“This represents building a permanent foundation for our children and investing in Tafelsig’s future,” she said.

As part of its expansion, KEE has launched the KEE Foundation, a non-profit arm aimed at uplifting families and tackling broader social challenges that impact children’s ability to learn. By supporting parents and addressing community needs, the foundation hopes to create a stronger environment for growth.

The centre is also preparing to host the first-ever KEE Awards, which will recognise excellence in the early childhood sector and highlight the often-overlooked role of teachers. Event directors Danyal Zaal and Aneesa September will lead the initiative, supported by Ms Booysen’s guidance.

Ward 82 councillor Washiela Harris said she is committed to helping Early Childhood Development centres apply for land and receive equipment in due time. “I want to empower them and show my support,” she said.
