Pamela Solomons, Westridge
Love Above All
Quietly, she sits in the corner
Hungry, she hasn't eaten all day
She's afraid to ask
For fear of what was to come
She sits there, crying inside
These are her kids
Kids she lovingly held to breast
That fierce forever love
Only a mother can have
She thought back to the days
When all they wanted was her
Days when they lovingly looked up at her
Their little faces radiating joy
How she longed for those days
She remembers, tenderly wiping their tears
When they were sad
Kissing better where they were hurting
Those days seemed so long ago
How she wished, just one more time
To see that look of love for her
Now, all she sees is their contempt
She remains quiet, waiting, praying
For someone to remember to feed her
Until then, she will endure the hunger pangs
She has long ago forgiven them for the hurt caused
When she looks at them
Her heart swells with love
At the same time
Shattering into a thousand pieces
Her love for them knows no bounds
They will always be her kids
Even when they have forgotten her
That is a mother's love
Limitless and unconditional
