The Save Mitchell’s Plain movement—made up of community leaders working together to bring about positive change—hosted a motorcade and prayer drive in response to the spate of shootings in Mitchell’s Plain.

The initiative focused on driving through the most affected areas to spread a message of peace.

On Sunday, July 13, Save Mitchell’s Plain, in partnership with religious leaders, community activists, and local organizations, hosted the motorcade starting at Westridge Civic Centre, which attracted approximately 200 participants.

Byron De Villiers, founder and spokesperson of Save Mitchell’s Plain, said: “The main aim of Save Mitchell’s Plain is to ensure that all communities across Mitchell’s Plain receive proper service delivery through a holistic approach that seeks to improve the lives of residents.”

Western Cape MEC for Police Oversight and Community Safety, Anroux Marais, said Mitchell’s Plain has been identified as a key area needing urgent and sustained intervention.

“These interventions include increased visible policing and targeted operations. Government is working alongside civil society, faith-based organisations, and NGOs to address the root causes of crime. We are also assisting with the formation and support of neighbourhood watches and community policing forums to strengthen safety efforts and rebuild trust between communities and the police.”
